Exhibition Dia-Chronos - Color in Silence | Nikos Leontopoulos

In the exhibition Color in Silence, Nikos Leontopoulos temporarily leaves behind the urban landscape of Athens, which has shaped his artistic vision in recent years, to embrace the challenge of engaging with the archetypal landscape of Tinos—“the two-syllable island that swims alongside other two-syllable islands in the Aegean,” as poet Dinos Siotis so evocatively writes.

Returning to a place deeply rooted in his personal experience, one that played a defining role in the formation of his artistic identity through its singular character, Leontopoulos does not merely produce yet another depiction of the island’s celebrated landmarks—images that often struggle to escape the aesthetic conventions of the tourist postcard. Instead, he immerses himself in the very essence of a metaphysical landscape, where the chthonic substance of the earth is subjected to a Sisyphean cycle of alchemical transformation beneath the relentless sun of the Cyclades.

In this way, each photograph, while remaining faithful to the landscape it records, simultaneously functions as a psychological portrait—a distillation of an inner lived experience, a complex poetic construction that extends beyond the interpretation of natural forms or the documentation of the interplay between light and shadow. Each image ultimately becomes an expression of identity: a unique imprint of the dialogue between memory, time, and personal experience.

Christina Sotiropoulou
Art Historian

Born in Athens, he studied Graphic Arts at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (TEI Athens).
He went on to pursue postgraduate studies in Computer Graphics and Adult Education at the Hellenic Open University.

He worked for leading advertising agencies and graphic design studios, and served as a lecturer at TEI Athens and as a seminar instructor at vocational training institutes and advertising agencies.

He contributed to the development of the postgraduate programme *Graphic Arts – Multimedia* at the Hellenic Open University.
He also authored books on prepress and served as the artistic editor of the university’s publications.

Since 2003, he has run his own advertising and publishing studio and served as the publisher of the cultural magazine *Epochs*.

Photography

He has been working professionally in photography for more than 45 years, specialising primarily in advertising photography and the documentation of works by painters.

His work has received awards both in Greece and internationally, and he has presented his work in five solo exhibitions and more than 80 group exhibitions.

Since 2021, he has served as Artistic Director of the Hellenic Photographic Society.
